With the New Jersey Appliance Rebate Program well under way, we’ve put together a list of popular questions.

1 .When does it start?

The New Jersey Clean Energy Program officially begins on April 1, 2010.

2. When does it end?

The state says April 30, 2010, or earlier based on availability of funds. Other state appliance rebate programs have ended earlier than scheduled, so it may be a very likely situation.

3. How does the rebate program work?

Applicants must reside in New Jersey and purchase within the state of New Jersey. Online purchases are not eligible.

Participating retailers may offer instant rebates at check-out. If you purchase a qualified appliance from a retailer who offers instant rebates, the state specifies, “you may not apply for a mail-in rebate.”

Rebates are only valid for state selected (more about that in answer 5) Energy Star Qualified appliances.

Completed rebate application must be postmarked no later than May 15, 2010.

All appliances MUST be installed in your New Jersey residence, Rebate application must be completed in its entirety and accompanied by proof of purchase, which consists of a legible copy of a dated and itemized sales receipt. Rebate application must include manufacturer, ENERGY STAR model number, serial number, store name, store location, purchase date and purchase price.

4. Who is Eligible?

Applicants must reside in New Jersey and purchases must be within the state of New Jersey. Unit must be installed in New Jersey.

5. What appliances are eligible?

6. How much in rebates can I receive?

Rebate levels are determined by the appliance type and energy efficiency.

Clothes washers must have a modified energy factor (MEF) of 1.8 to 2.19 and a water factor <=7.5.
Dishwashers* $25 ENERGY STAR Dishwashers Dishwashers use 5.8 gallons of water or less per cycle and use less than 324 kWh per year.
Dishwashers* $50 ENERGY STAR Dishwashers Dishwashers use 5.0 gallons of water or less per cycle and use less than 307 kWh per year.
Refrigerators* $75 ENERGY STAR Refrigerators Refrigerators must be 20% better than the federal standard; the refrigerators have to be 7.75 cubic feet or greater in volume.
Refrigerators* $100 ENERGY STAR

Refrigerators must be 25% better than the federal standard; the refrigerators have to be 7.75 cubic feet or greater in volume.

* Compact dishwashers and refrigerators are not eligible for rebates.

The above rebates are valid for select ENERGY STAR qualified appliances purchased between April 1, 2010 and April 30, 2010 or while funds last.  This offer is valid for a limited time only and may end before April 30, 2010, based on availability of funds.  The program will terminate these promotions when funds are exhausted. Program termination will be posted on NJCleanEnergy.com.

Visit the website for current ENERGY STAR qualified product rebate programs offered through New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program.

Additionally, a $50 rebate is offered to New Jersey residents who recycle their old, working refrigerators or freezers through New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program.  Customers taking advantage of the ARRA incentives on new refrigerators may also take advantage of this program.

7. When can I use the rebate to purchase an appliance?

PURCHASE of qualified appliance(s) by New Jersey consumers must start no sooner than April 1, 2010.  Qualified purchases must be no later than April 30, 2010.

8. Can I shop anywhere with the appliance rebate?

No online purchases will qualify for the rebate. The purchase must be made at a Texas retail store or from a Texas contractor.

9. When can I expect my rebate check?

The state of New Jersey has stated that rebate checks may take up to 120 days from the date they receive ALL required information to process.

10. Where is the state’s FAQ about the Appliance Program?

Good question.  We have yet to find one at: http://www.njcleanenergy.com/
